Michael Keith Welsh
Michael Keith Welsh, 77, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Astoria Place of Barnesville. He was born on April 12, 1947, in Barnesville to the late John M. and Kathlyn “Kay” R. Crum Welsh.
Mike was a 1965 graduate of Barnesville High School and received his Bachelors degree from Ohio University. He received his Masters Degree from Ohio University, University of Steubenville, and University of Dayton. Mike retired in 2004 from Barnesville High School after 35 years where he taught American Literature, English Literature, Speech, and Mythology. Mike was an assistant football coach from 1969 – 1981 and was an assistant wrestling coach for a year. He was a member of the Barnesville Elks and Bethesda Sportsman Club.
He was very proud that he did almost everything in his life that he wanted to do. Mike and his wife traveled all 50 states and most of Canada. He accomplished one of his bucket list items; to fly in a helicopter. He was an avid fisherman; going to Canada for 25 years to fish. After he retired from teaching, he became a snowbird living in Florida during the winter. He was an avid sports fan especially the Shamrocks, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and Kentucky Wildcats.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, James Michael Reischman.
Michael is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris G. (Gray) Welsh whom he married on July 20, 1974; a twin sister, Patricia (Roger) Reischman; niece, Terra Butler; two great-nephews, Luke Andrew Donathan and Aiden Michael Donathan; several Welsh and McCann cousins; and his beloved cat, Trey.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 4pm until the time of the vigil service at 7:45pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11am with Fr. Dave Cornett officiating at Assumption of the B.V.M. Catholic Church, 306 West Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
