November Jet Setters for the Union Local District were celebrated at the November 21 school board meeting for their outstanding contributions to the district.

Belmont County CIC Announces Essay Winners
The Community Improvement Council released winners of the first Youth Essay Contest Winners:
Grades 1-4 wrote an essay on the following question: What do you like the most about the area you live and explain why you like it.
· 1st Place – Jeremy Wesley, 4th Grade, St. Clairsville Elementary
· 2nd Place – Wesley Skinner, 2nd Grade, Union Local Elementary
· 3rd Place – Joseph Dorff, 3rd Grade, Union Local Elementary
Grades 5-8 wrote an essay on the following question: What you would like your community to be like by the year 2050, and what will you do to help make it happen?
· 1st Place – Kayley Schneider, 8th Grade, Powhatan Elementary
· 2nd Place – Caiden Dopkiss, 5th Grade, Home School
· 3rd Place – Charlotte David, 5th Grade, St. Clairsville Middle
Grades 9-12 wrote an essay on the following question: Why type of business, activity, or recreation would you like to develop in Belmont County that would make you and other people stay or return to the area?
· 1st Place – Sarah Dorff, 12th Grade, Union Local High School
· 2nd Place – Lydia Fuchs, 11th Grade, Barnesville High School
· 3rd Place – Maxim Lussier, 11th Grade, St. Clairsville High School
The following sponsors made the inaugural essay contest possible: The Flower Gardens of Barnesville, East Central Ohio Education Service Center, EQT, Belmont County Treasurer Katherine Kelich, Joe’s Tire and PNC Bank.
Union Local Senior Will March in Macy’s Parade
Elana Bugay, Union Local senior, is in New York City to march in Thursday’s parade as part of Macy’s Great American Band. The parade will be televised on NBC at 8:30 to Noon with an encore showing at 2:00.
26th UL Middle School Turkey Trot – November 26
The event takes place Tuesday, November 26 at the Middle School Campus at 1:30.
Entry fee is two canned good items (bring more if possible). The food will benefit local food pantries.
The First Period Class with the most canned goods collected wins a pizza party.
The top seven boys and seven girls in each grade level will receive a “famous” Turkey Trot Shirt.
All students entered as either runners or walkers. Awards presentations will follow in the Middle School Gym.
Barnesville MS Operation Toy Lift Fund Drive
Now through December 6, the Barnesville Middle School will collect funds from students to benefit the United Way Operation Toy Lift for 2024. Funds will be used to purchase gifts for Upper Ohio Valley students of need. The first period class with the most donations will win milk and donuts as a reward.
Girl Scout Troop 10124 recently placed toy donation boxes at Family Dollar, Dollar General Barnesville Antique Mall, Barnesville Police Department and Chestnut Lanes. The Santa Sprint Toy Drive is now accepting donations until December 20th. Donations go to local families in need this Christmas.
Beallsville Schools Concert/Family Fun Night – Dec. 11
The Beallsville Schools Music Program will present a Christmas Concert, Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00. Performances will be offered by the 3-5 grade music classes, 5th grade band, and the Beallsville High School Band. The concert will take place a the school campus. It will be followed by a “Family Fun Night.”
Barnesville Bands/Choirs Winter Concert – Dec. 18
The free event will take place at the BHS Auditorium, Wednesday, December 18, beginning at 7:00.

Barnesville Lifewise Academy T-Shirt Fund Drive
The Barnesville group is currenlty raiding $1,775 to purchase LifeWise Academy tee shirts for the program’s 335 studnets. An anonymous donor gavew $1,000 towards the total. Individual donations are still being accepted (Thursday evening).
