David Franklin Marmie, Sr.
David Franklin Marmie Sr, 93, of Woodsfield, Ohio, formerly of Ozark, Ohio and Traverse City, Michigan died November 19th, 2024. He was born September 16th, 1931 in Bethesda, Ohio (Belmont County), a son of the late Fred and Nellie (Chambers) Marmie.
David was a Korean War veteran serving in Germany and at a military radar station in Empire, Michigan. He was a brick layer for 35 years at the former Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio. Some of his masonry work can still be seen around Monroe County. David loved life, joked, smiled and would end his phone calls with “don’t forget to have some fun”. He enjoyed talking with his family, and loved searching for hidden treasures at local auctions or yard sales. For years, he enjoyed watching harness and dog racing at Wheeling Downs. David spent many hours tinkering on small engines and always took pride in keeping the lawn manicured with decorative Christmas lights for all to see at the family home in Ozark, Ohio. He amazingly could fix just about anything. He rarely missed a ball game that his boys played in and rarely turned down an offer to throw ball in the back yard. David moved to Traverse City, Michigan where he remarried and lived for over 20 years.
David was the final living member of his immediate Marmie family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Norma (Egler) Marmie of Traverse City, MI, his daughter Debra (JD) Burke of Ozark, OH and eleven siblings, Charles (WWII), Eleanor, Jessie, Ida Louise, Evelyn, Mabel, Robert, Elmer, Carl and two half-brothers Marion and Carris. Left to cherish his memory are his first wife, Naomi (Poulson) Marmie of Woodsfield, OH, four children; Shirley Marmie-McCance of Byesville, OH, David Franklin Marmie Jr. of Germantown, OH, John (Monica) Marmie of Morgan Hill, CA, Anthony Marmie of Columbus, OH. Grandchildren include; Jarrin (Sarah) Burke, Savannah (Travis) Eddy, Matthew (Lanae) Burke, Le Vanelle Marmie, Deidre (Jared) Colvin, Christian Callarik, Zane Marmie, Isaiah Marmie and Ethan Marmie, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and the Egler step-family.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, November 24th from 11am to 2pm at the Wilson Funeral Home – Harper Chapel, Beallsville, Ohio where funeral services will immediately follow at 2pm with Pastor Wayne Clark offering words of comfort. Burial will follow in the Ozark Cemetery, OH. An informal gathering will immediately follow the burial service at his niece’s bistro and bar, the Main Street Barrel House, 137 E. Main Street, Barnesville, OH, to celebrate his life with family and friends.
