More than a half century ago if you reached out to a Bell Telephone Operator in the Barnesville area, you likely reached operators such as those shown above. Until 1958, operators worked from a second-floor location in the 100 block of East Main Street. In 1958, a new two-story telephone building was erected at the corner of N. Arch and E. Church streets. Equipment in that building continues to help direct calls today but the days of live in-person operators in Barnesville disappeared long ago.
