Belmont County is an America 250-Community

Belmont Commissioners J.P. Dutton and Jerry Echemann attended the Ohio County Commissioners Association meeting last week in Columbus where they heard from Todd Kleismit, executive director of America 250-Ohio Commission.

We are excited to celebrate and honor the rich history, culture, and incredible stories that make Belmont County special as we approach the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, noted a press release with the announcement.

Next year, exciting events and initiatives are planned as the county participates in this statewide celebration of America’s past, present, and future.

Older residents will remember the buildup for the nation’s Bi-Centennial Celebration in 1976. In Barnesville a huge parade took place on Saturday, December 3 while on the official holiday, Sunday, July 4, at 1:00 in the afternoon church bells were rung here and throughout the nation.
