Robert (Bob) L. Dubiel

Robert (Bob) L. Dubiel, 83, of Lafferty, passed away peacefully on January 31, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on October 22, 1941, in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late John and Matilda (Mack) Dubiel.

Bob was a proud graduate of Lafferty High School’s Class of 1959, the school’s final graduating class. He played high school baseball and basketball developing his lifelong love of sports. He went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Later, he played in the United Mine Workers Baseball League under the legendary Joseph “Friday” Bizzarri.

Bob dedicated much of his career to Powhatan #6 Mine and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a lifelong member of Moose Lodge #1462 in Lafferty, where he served in various roles, and enjoyed the strong sense of community the Lodge provided.

Bob shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Janet Lee Dubiel. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children, Lisa Dubiel Roetker of Lafayette, IN; Tami (Fred) Bock of Fishers, IN; Paula (William) Howell of Cambridge, OH; Kelly Taylor of Woodstock, GA; and Rob Taylor of Columbus, OH. He was a proud grandfather to Rachel Brokaw, Kate Thurston, Frank Roetker, Ayden Howell, Jack Roetker, Elizabeth Cox, David Bock, Maddie Howell, Grace Bock, Kyle Taylor, and Ian Taylor, and a loving great-grandfather to Isla Fields, Ash Roetker, August Howell, and Zach Roetker.

He is also survived by his brothers, John (Patty) Dubiel and Frank (Barb) Dubiel, a brother-in-law, Mike (Joyce) Karchner, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Bob leaves behind his beloved neighbors, the Kirchner family, Tony, Taryn, and Anthony, who brought him friendship and support throughout the years.

Bob found great joy in the simple things in life. He took immense pride in maintaining his expansive property, spending countless hours outside with his dog. He enjoyed playing Farmville and scratching off lottery tickets in his free time. He also found joy hunting, fishing, and tending to his fruits and vegetables. Above all, Bob was a passionate fan of Cleveland sports, faithfully cheering for the Browns, Indians (not Guardians), and Cavaliers.

Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, February 5th from 11am until time of service at 12pm at Care Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists, 204 West Main St., St. Clairsville, OH. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lafferty, Ohio 43951. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Belmont County Animal Shelter, 45244 National Rd W, St Clairsville, OH 43950 in Bob’s honor.

Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his love for his family will live on forever. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Emerald Pointe Health & Rehabilitation for the unwavering, compassionate care and support they provided Bob and his family throughout his illness.
