Following a challenge, OVAC officials agreed the 3A division scoring on February 1 was incorrect. Barnesville was named Co-Champs along with the school’s neighboring rival Union Local Jets.  The Shamrock squad gathered this week to celebrate the late victory.

_________

“Many of you may have wondered why we had not posted anything about OVACs this past Saturday. We were not scored correctly and had to wait for it to be reviewed. We finally, after 5 days of waiting, got word that with our scoring corrected, we had the highest score in the 3A Division” was posted on Barnesville Shamrock Cheerleaders social media account Thursday, February 6.

In the initial scoring, Barnesville had 347.8 points to Union Local’s 350.

At the same time, OVAC Executive Director Dirk DeCoy issued the following statement:

“The Union Local Cheer Squad was awarded and crowned the Class 3A Cheer Champions by our judges at the OVAC Cheer Championships on Saturday, February 1st. The Jets are still, and will remain, Class 3A Champions”,  DeCoy said.

“Per the OVAC rules, Barnesville exercised their right to contest their own scores, as all teams have the opportunity to do so.

“The Cheer Committee reviewed tape and confirmed a scoring discrepancy.

“Because of this, Barnesville and Union Local will be Class 3A Cheer Co-Champions for the 2024-25 school year.

“The OVAC apologizes for our error and CONGRATULATES both Union Local and Barnesville Cheer Squads”, Decoy concluded.
