BOE Renews Treasurer’s Contract

At the conclusion of Thursday night’s Barnesville School Board Meeting, members voted to approve a new four-year contract with District Treasurer Adam Quirk. The new contract runs from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2030, according to Superintendent Micah Fuchs.

Quirk has served the district since June 2021, first as assistant treasurer for two months, then as treasurer since. Prior to that, the Ohio Northern University grad was deputy auditor of Belmont County for just shy of eight years.
Prior to regular agenda items on the docket, the Board met in executive session for over an hour.
Personnel
Under Personnel, the following volunteers for the current school year were approved pending all required paperwork:
- Chad Winland, Volunteer Junior High Softball
- Casey Mayo, Volunteer Junior High Baseball
- Chris Hannahs, Volunteer Assistant Baseball
- Brady Treherne, Volunteer Assistant Baseball
- Samantha Huff, Volunteer Assistant Softball
- Corey Powell, Volunteer Assistant Softball
- Dalton Turner, Volunteer Assistant Track
- Mariah Shumaker, Volunteer Assistant Track
For the 2025-2026 school year, three volunteers were approved pending all required paperwork:
- Steven Shumaker, Volunteer Assistant Football
- Neal Zaccagnini, Volunteer Assistant Football
- Amanda Sobutka, Volunteer Assistant Cheer
Supplemental contracts were issued for the following one (1) year supplemental contracts for the 2025-2026 school year pending all required paperwork:
- Abby McClelland, Head Cheerleading
- Blake Allen, Head Football
- Brady Treherne, Assistant Football
- Anthony Starr, Assistant Football
- Chris Hannahs, Assistant Football
- Bryce Allen, Football Defensive Coordinator
- Dylan Rogers, Football Offensive Coordinator
- Mark Brown, Head Cross Country Coach
- Melissa Dodd, Assistant Cross Country Coach
- Jerry Robinson, Head Golf Coach
- Kimberly Jarrett, Head Volleyball Coach
- Karie Hunkler, Assistant Volleyball Coach
Substitutes for the current school year were approved pending all required paperwork for completed and on file.
- Melissa Myers Substitute Educational Aide, Cook, and Secretary
- Kayla Milburn Substitute Educational Aide, Cook, and Secretary
Finally, the Board of Education award an Elementary School position currently assigned to 2nd Grade to Angie Fisher effective for the 2025-2026 school year pending all paperwork.
Sports
The Board of Education adopted Resolution #25-10 Authorizing 2025-2026 Membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
A contract between Barnesville Schools, Barnesville Golf Parents and the Belmont Hills Country Club for period of five (5) years for $1,000 a year ($5,000 total), was approved. This agreement allows golf team members the opportunity to play the course in the evening hours each summer. Previously, students were permitted to play at the Switzerland of Ohio course near Beallsville.
Under discussion, Brad Hannahs, athletic director, and Clint Abbott, curriculum coordinator, shared information regarding student’s officiating school sporting events. Noting there is a shortage of officials throughout the valley, juniors and seniors could take officiating classes for certification. Promoted by the OVAC, the administrators recommended the district purchase several seats for the online training sessions. If a student signs up but does not complete the certification, the district would recover the registration fees from the participant. Students from St. Clairsville have enrolled in the training, Hannahs noted.
Programmatic
Under Programmatic measures, the Board of Education approve the Memorandums of Understanding between the Barnesville Exempted Village School District and Stark State College and with Belmont College for College Credit Plus during the 2025-2026 school year.
A contract between the local district and the East Central Oho Educational Service Center at a rate of $53.20 an hour for payroll services was approved on an “as needed” basis.
Also, for Model Policies and Procedures for the Education of Children with Disabilities, Parent Participation in Title I Programs and an Early Childhood Education Sliding Fee Tuition Scale for the 2025-2026 school year.
The BOE approved overnight trips to Dayton Ohio at the National Museum of the Air Force for the VEX Robotics State Competition in March for middle school and high school teams.
Donations and Pledges
The following January donations and pledges were accepted:
- Barnesville Pumpkin Festival for FFA, $300.00
- Barnesville Boosters Club for Athletics, $5,000.00
- WesBanco Bank Inc. for Band/Music program, $350.00
For the Turf/Lighting Stadium Project pledges and donations were received from
- Muxie Distributing, $1,000.00
- Ed & Heather Eberhart, $400.00
- Barnesville Rotary Club, $2,000.00
Correspondence from the families of Keith James Shultz, Kay Perkins and Martha Ralston were received and accepted by the district.
Public Hearing Planned
A Public Hearing Regarding Potential 2025-2026 School Calendar will take place at the next meeting on March 20. The proposed calendar will be available for review on the school district’s website shortly. At Also at Thursday’s meeting, agreements with the teacher’s and classified personnel groups related to the proposed calendar were approved.
