Barnesville Shamrock Athletics This Week

Three Shamrocks Place at State Wrestling Tournament

Ayden King’s win on Saturday at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament was his 200th career win. He now has the highest number of wins in Barnesville High history!

King is State Runner Up

District Champion Ayden King (165 pound) defeated Joe Piccirillo of Ashland St. John by a technical fall 20-3 to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals

On Saturday morning, King defeated Lane Lopez of Delta by pinfall to advance to the semifinals.

Later Saturday, Ayden defeated Levi Collins of Waynesville by pinfall to advance to the state championship Sunday.

In the State Championship contest, King fell to Braxton Quaintance of Lakota 5-4 to finish as the State Runner-up.

He finishes out his senior year with a record of 51-3 claimed the all time wins leader in Barnesville history during the tournament.

Ford Takes 4th Place

District Champion Hines Ford (175 pounds) defeated Josh Groeber of Clermont NE by pinfall to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday.

On Saturday morning Ford defeated Kaden Bish of Mohawk by pinfall to advance to the semifinals.

Later Saturday, Ford lost to Awsom Mitchell of Triad, 12-2, moving him to the consolation bracket.

Hines Ford falls to Awsom Mitchell of Triad 12-2 & will drop down to the consolation bracket.

Sunday morning, Ford squared off against Union Local’s Brody Perzanowski taking the match 2-1.

In the match to determine 3rd place in Division III, Ford lost to Jake Hoke of Graham Local 18-6 finishing his junior year with a 4th place finish at the state tournament.

Carpenter Comes in 5th

Colt Carpenter, (138 pounds) who came in second at the District, defeated Brant Kirian of Mohawk 14-5 to advance to the quarterfinals.   

On Saturday morning, Carpenter fell to Alberto Moreno of Chippewa 17-8 moving Carpenter to the consolation bracket.

Later that day, Carpenter defeated Caden Schmeltzer of Wayndale by pinfall and advancing in the consolation bracket.

Sunday morning Colt Carpenter fell to Abe Hermes of Milan Edison 6-0., He will now wrestle for 5th place in the 138 weight class.

In his final contest, Carpenter won by Default over Alberto Mareno finishing his sophomore year with a 5th place finish at the state tournament.

Christien Hannahs, (215 pounds), who came in third at the District, fell to Cass Chiesa of Delta 5-1 Friday.

Barnesville, who entered Sunday’s matches 7th overall in Division III, ended the tournament in 8th place. Last year, the Shamrocks claimed the state title.

Aqua Rocks Spring Swim Program Registration

The “Aqua Rocks” Spring Swim Program begins with practice at the Linsly School Monday, March 10 at 5:00. The program is open to all area students in grades 5-8. The cost is $85 per participant. Additional students from the same family, $25.

Practices will take place each Monday and Wednesday. There will be at least five meets and possibly one more.

Junior High Girls Softball

March 3 – The Shamrock Junior High team beat St. Clairsville 10-4. Coach Chad Winland reports the win included strong pitching by Paizlie Loudin. Team members Raegan Welch, Kinsley Roe, Gracie Smith and Mariah Weiss each had two hits each.

Sloane Richey, Loudin, Addy Kemp, Cinzly Carpenter and Khloe Kuthy also “chipped in” with nice hits.

The Junior Varsity (JV) team also won 6-2 behind pitcher Maggie VanFossen.

Team are coaches are Chad Winland, Nathan Smith, Jason Weiss and Boomer Reed.
