Olney 9th grade students recently visited the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, located in Moundsville, WV, as part of their Ohio Valley unit. During this unit, students learn about the native peoples who lived in this area, what they left behind, and how they were forcibly removed to western lands.

During their visit, students wrote about three ancient artifacts, including houses and community buildings, spear and arrowheads, and even a replica dugout canoe! Students also walked up and spent time on the mound itself.

The Olney Friends School annual Spring Gym Ex got underway yesterday but was shortened after a student was injured during the exercises.

School head Christian Acemah reported “after the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) stabilized the student for transport, the student was immediately rushed to the hospital”.

“I am happy to report that the student has returned to campus from the hospital in good spirits. After a battery of tests, the doctors concluded that the student could resume regular activities after rest and a break from strenuous activity”, Acemah added.

Activities each year include class skits, folk dancing, balancing, jump rope among others.

A video of the event was broadcast on You Tube.
