Miller Snags 2nd in Ohio Patriot’s Pen Contest

Representing Barnesville VFW Post #2792, Barnesville eighth grader Owen Miller won second place at the Ohio Patriot’s Pen Contest. Owen wrote an essay on this year’s theme: “My Voice in America’s Democracy.” As the second-place winner, Owen read his essay at the State VFW Convention and received a $1,500 prize.
The Patriot’s Pen contest is for students in grades 6 through 8, and it focuses on exploring American history and society. Participants write a 300- to 400-word essay on the theme. Last year over 120,000 students competed in the contest. The winner at the national level receives a $5,000 scholarship. Congratulations Owen Miller!
