Shamrock Sports This Week

During the first week of the 2025 season, the Shamrock Girls softball team is off to a remarkable 4-1 start. Their only loss came Saturday by one run in 11 innings in a double header with the Fort Frye Cadets.
Varsity Softball Doubleheader results from Fort Frye (Saturday, March 29)
Game 1: Barnesville – 10, Fort Frye – 2
Game 2: Fort Frye – 7, Barnesville – 6 (11 innings)

Barnesville – 9, Buckeye Local – 0 (Thursday, March 27)
Maddy Tyson collected three hits in four at bats, as Barnesville defeated Buckeye Local 9-0 on Thursday. Tyson doubled in the 2nd and 4th innings, and singled in the 6th.
The Shamrocks got on the board in the top of the 2nd inning after Peyton Loudin singled to center field, Sophie Carpenter tripled to center, and Tyson doubled, each scoring one run.
Loudin earned the win for Barnesville, giving up one hit and no runs over five innings, while striking out two and walking one. Loudin also collected two hits for the Rocks in three at bats. Lander took the loss for Buckeye Local, going four innings, giving up five runs on six hits. Abigail Johnson pitched two shutout innings in relief, striking out three.
Barnesville – 10, River – 0 (Wednesday, March 26)
Payton Dudzik hit two home runs and drove in four as Barnesville’s Varsity Softball defeated River 10-0 on Wednesday. Dudzik homered in the 3rd and 4th innings.
The Rocks jumped out to the lead in the top of the 1st inning after Chae Smolira doubled, scoring two runs, and Kylee Powell singled, scoring one.
Barnesville added three more runs in the 3rd on three hits, including Dudzik solo home run to center. Dudzik’s second home run in the 4th scored two runs.
Ella Betts earned the win for the Shamrocks. The starter surrendered one hit on zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking two. Ava Wohnhas took the loss for River, going seven innings, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits, striking out six and walking two. Abigail Johnson pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out four.
Barnesville accumulated 10 hits in the game with zero errors. Kaylee Hagan, Wohnhas, and Ithica Daugherty each collected one hit for River.
Barnesville – 6, Monroe Central – 1 (Monday, March 24)
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Softball defeated Monroe Central Varsity Seminoles 6-1 on Monday.
Monroe Central opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.
Barnesville jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Payton Dudzik hit an inside the park home run, Chae Smolira tripled to center field, and Lilly Welch grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Shamrocks extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Peyton Loudin and Smolira.
Ella Betts earned the win for Barnesville, allowing three hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking two. Karlie Haslam took the loss for Monroe Central, going six innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits, striking out three, and walking none. Loudin pitched two innings of shutout ball for Barnesville in relief, allowing one hit, striking out two, and walking one.
The Rocks accumulated 11 hits in the game. Maddy Tyson, Kylee Powell, Smolira, and Dudzik each collected two hits. Jadyn Miller set the tone at the top of the lineup for Monroe Central with two hits in three at bats, and stealing two bases.

Meadowbrook Opening Day Meet
Barnesville’s boys and girls track teams competed at Byesville Saturday, March 29. In the girls contest the Shamrocks came in second behind Ridgewood with 109 points. In the boys division, Barnesville placed third with 101.5 points. Ridgewood placed first followed by Meadowbrook.

Sports Honors
‘Rocks’ Girls team member Maddy Tyson was recently named an All-Ohio Honorable Mention member for the 2024-2025 season. She was also named a member of the upcoming Ohio All-Star team that will take on the West Virginia team.
Casey Carpenter will also participate in the boys’ All-Starr tussle between Ohio and West Virginia.
