Feds Cancel Local Health Grant

In news first reported by WTRF television, the Belmont County Health Department was suddenly notified this past week that the federal government withdrew funding for an existing $130,000 Enhanced Operations grant. The funding was originally good through the end of the year.

Deputy Health Commissioner Robert Sproul told the station, $71,000 of the grant remained unspent.

All counties in Ohio with similar grants were also notified of the sudden loss of their grants too.  

The grant funded monitoring of health in schools and nursing homes with the goal of stopping the spread of disease.
