Jean Wharton

Nora “Jean” Wharton,81, of Urbana, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at Hearth and Home Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born on October 23, 1943, in Alledonia, Ohio, to the late James and Marie (McFarland) Perkins.
A proud 1961 graduate of Beallsville High School, Nora married the love of her life, Robert Lewis Wharton, on September 23, 1962, in her hometown of Alledonia.
Jean was a devoted member of the First Christian Church in Urbana. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, listening to her favorite music (especially Elvis Presley and Kenny Rogers), gardening, and working on plastic canvas crafts.
Above all, Jean cherished the time spent with her family. Affectionately known as “Grammy” to her grandchildren and “G” to her great-grandchildren, she was their biggest fan, never missing an opportunity to support them in sports, school events, and everyday life. Her warmth, devotion, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by husband of 62 years, Robert Lewis Wharton; daughters, Theresa (William) Edmondson and Kasi (David) Deppen; grandchildren, Heidi (Anthony) Lucas, Hailey (Cade) Kelly and Zachary Deppen; great grandchildren, Carter and Chloe Lucas; brother, Lowell Perkins; sisters, Wilda Perkins, Wanda Jarrett,
She is preceded in death by parents and her sister, Vera White.
Per Jean’s wishes private services will be held at the families convenience.
Services are entrusted to Vernon Family Funeral Home, Urbana.
