A young Bob Buchanan is shown standing in front of the Barnesville Whetstone newspaper office at 122 South Chestnut Street about 1911 shortly after the office was moved from the IOOF (Odd Fellows) Lodge Building in the Central Block of East Main Street.
The newspaper was established as the Saturday Whetstone in 1894 by his father, William Emmett Buchanan. Young Bob was thrust into the newspaper business as a young man following the sudden death of his father in 1921.
Robert and his wife, Lucille ran the paper until it ceased publication in July 1974.
