John William Blackburn Obituary

John William Blackburn III age 72, of Quaker City, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born January 30, 1953 in Cleveland, OH son of the late John William Blackburn II and Gertrude Frericks Blackburn.

He retired as maintenance supervisor for the Noble Local Schools having worked there from 1985 to 2012. John will be remembered by many as being the Shenandoah High School Wrestling Coach for 18 years, where he touched the lives of many young men. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley-Davidsons. He enjoyed traveling across the United States by motorcycle with his wife, Shelley, by his side.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters Sandy Childs and Sharon Hall; brother-in-law Dale Clark; sister-in-law Rose Blackburn.

Those left to cherish his memory, are his wife Shelley Sue Monroe Blackburn, whom he married February 15, 1975; son Rick (Donna) Blackburn and grandson Nicholas Blackburn all of Quaker City, OH; sister Karen Clark of Garfield Heights, OH; brother Dale Blackburn of Lakeland, FL; mother-in-law Columbia Anderson Barnauskas of Barnesville, OH. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A memorial service and celebration of John’s Life will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Kennonsburg Church, 57599 Kennonsburg Rd, Salesville, OH 43778, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. All attendees are encouraged to ride their motorcycles to the service.
