For the third year running, the Shamrock Ladies Softball team claimed the Sectional Championship when they defeated Edison Local 18-15 Wednesday night. The team record Wednesday stood at 20-6 with games with more games scheduled through Saturday.
Friday, May 10: Barnesville – 12, St. Clairsville – 2
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Trounce St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks won big over St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils 12-2 on Saturday.
A single by Payton Dudzik on the sixth pitch of the at-bat put Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks on the board in the top of the first.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks added one run in the second after St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils committed an error.
Chae Smolira hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the third for the Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Abigail Johnson earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Jolen Brannan led things off in the circle for St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils. The pitcher surrendered nine hits and nine runs (six earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking eight. Sadie Johnson appeared in relief for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks piled up 12 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Maddy Tyson led Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with three hits in five at bats. Johnson went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Dudzik and Lilly Welch each collected multiple hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. Smolira paced Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Dudzik and Becklee Oliver each stole multiple bases for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks stole 10 bases in the game.
Lainey Benedict and Kesslee Barrera were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils. Benedict and Barrera were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils. Karlee Higgins led St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Higgins stole two bases. St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils stole four bases in the game. St. Clairsville Varsity Red Devils turned one double play in the game.
Monday, May 12: Barnesville – 9, Buckeye Local – 5
Maddy Tyson A Difficult Out as Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Defeat Buckeye Local
Maddy Tyson collected three hits in five at bats, as Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks defeated Buckeye Local 9-5 on Monday. Tyson hit a solo home run to center field in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the third inning.
Buckeye Local got on the board in the top of the first inning after Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks committed an error, and A Jones walked, each scoring one run.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to two home runs. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks tied the game at two on a solo home run to left field by Chae Smolira.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks took the lead, 5-2, in the bottom of the second thanks to two errors.
A single by Lilly Welch extended the Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the third inning.
Payton Dudzik hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Peyton Loudin earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The pitcher gave up two hits and five runs (three earned) over three and two-third innings, striking out five and walking five. K Lander took the loss for Buckeye Local. The starting pitcher went three innings, surrendering six runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking one. Abigail Johnson tossed three and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks in relief. The reliever surrendered two hits, striking out one and walking three.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks amassed 10 hits in the game. Roselyne Anderson, Tyson, Smolira, Dudzik, and Welch each drove in one run for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. Kylee Powell collected two hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks in four at bats.
B Russel, the number nine hitter for Buckeye Local, led the way with three runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter Lander led Buckeye Local with two hits in three at bats. M Roset led Buckeye Local with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game.
Wednesday, May 14: Barnesville – 18, Edison Local – 15
Maddy Tyson Powers Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Past Edison
Maddy Tyson hit two home runs and drove in five as Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks defeated Edison 18-15 on Wednesday. Tyson homered in the fifth and seventh innings.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks collected 19 hits and Edison 16 in the high-scoring affair.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks were the first to get on the board in the second when Peyton Loudin doubled, scoring one run.
Edison flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring nine runs on six hits to take the lead, 9-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by A Boka that drove in two.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run to center field by Payton Dudzik.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Loudin, a sacrifice fly by Lilly Welch, a sacrifice bunt by Mariah Schaffer, and a home run to left field by Tyson.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks took the lead in the top of the sixth. Loudin doubled, scoring one run, to give Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks the edge, 11-10.
A double by L Anderson gave Edison the lead, 12-11, in the bottom of the sixth.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks captured the lead, 15-12, in the top of the seventh when Tyson homered to center field, scoring two runs, Abigail Johnson hit a solo home run to center field, and an error scored one run.
Edison tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two doubles. Edison tied the game at 15 on a double by Anderson.
In the top of the tenth inning, Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks went back into the lead after Welch singled down the left field line, Schaffer singled to center field, and Tyson grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.
Johnson earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The righty gave up 12 hits and seven runs over eight and one-third innings, striking out two and walking four. Anderson took the loss for Edison. The starter went 10 innings, surrendering 18 runs (16 earned) on 19 hits, striking out five and walking three. Loudin began the game for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler gave up four hits and eight runs (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking two.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks amassed 19 hits in the game. Loudin led Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with five hits in six at bats. Chae Smolira, Dudzik, Sophie Carpenter, and Welch each collected multiple hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Edison accumulated 16 hits in the game. Anderson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Edison with six runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-for-6 on the day. Boka, Anderson, and C Peckens each collected three hits for Edison. S Henderson and B Leanza each collected multiple hits for Edison. Peckens paced Edison with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Edison turned one double play in the game.
Thursday, May 15: Barnesville – 7, Union Local – 4
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Secure Win Against Union Local
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks ousted Union Local 7-4 Thursday.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Union Local committed an error, Payton Dudzik singled to center field, and Sophie Carpenter grounded out, each scoring one run.
Union Local scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a home run to center field by M Martin.
Union Local scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a home run to right field by A Kellaway.
Peyton Loudin earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one. K Stidd took the loss for Union Local. The starting pitcher went three innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking two. Abigail Johnson threw three innings of no-run ball for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks in relief. The righty allowed one hit, striking out four and walking none.
Carpenter provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with two runs batted in. Carpenter went 1-for-3 on the day. Number seven hitter, Kylee Powell, showed the depth of Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks’ lineup, by leading them with two hits in four at bats. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Maddy Tyson made the most plays with eight.
Martin and Kellaway were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Union Local. Kellaway set the tone at the top of the lineup; leading Union Local with two hits in four at bats.
