Bench Honors Memory of Flushing Veteran
Thursday morning, May 22, Union Local Schools dedicated a memorial bench to John “Beetle” Ciesielka—a proud veteran, beloved community member, and loyal supporter of Union Local Schools.
“Beetle was more than a familiar face in our hallways—he was a friend, mentor, and living history lesson. He regularly visited our school to connect with both teachers and students, sharing his stories and deep commitment to service and education,” the school statement said.
The bench was donated by members of the Flushing American Legion Post 366 for donating this wonderful bench.
Ciesielka was a member of the Flushing Post. He tragically died in a fire at his Flushing home in January 2024 at the age of 91.,
