Ellie Ewing, Executive Director of the Captina Conservancy, provided the program on April 29. Ewing is in her 6th year as head of the local land trust organization.
The Conservancy was launched in 2010 with a $2,500 grant from the Columbus Zoo to protect the Captina Creek which is home to he only known breeding population in Ohio of the endangered Eastern Hellbender Salamander.
The group enters into legal agreements with private landowners to permanently protect the land. They build and maintain trails and other public spaces to provide access and interaction for people and nature. Upcoming events for the organization include the Annual Duck Dash on June 28, the Captina Island Paddle on July 20 and the monthly hike at Dysart Woods near Belmont.
Foster Hope Ohio Valley Adds Two More Counties

The local volunteer organization Foster Hope Oho Valley has added Tyler and Wetzel counties in West Viriginia to their rotation this year.
The group extends thanks to New Martinsville Pre-K for hosting a donation drive and collecting such an amazing donation shown above.
At this time, they are putting a hold on all physical donations until they get some deliveries out. Their space is overflowing- an amazing problem to have.
The only exception is blankets. They put a blanket in every bag and they are the only physical item we’re running low on right now.
Foster Hope Ohio Valley provides backpacks filled with necessities for foster youth in eastern Ohio and the northern panhandle of West Virginia.
Watt Center Pauses Book Donations, Boxes Wanted

Volunteers for the annual Book Sale at the Watt Center for History and The Arts report, “we have received so many wonderful book donations recently. We appreciate the support; however, we are running out of room. We would like to put a pause on book donations until August when we start preparing for the sale.
However, the group is running low on the sturdy beer boxes used to store books between sales. We could use some help acquiring these. If any local businesses have them available, please reach out.
