Barnesville School Board Meeting Recap

The School Board recognized several FFA members at the May 15 BOE meeting.  

Moyer noted, “We are being recognized for our livestock team winning 7th overall in the state for General Livestock Judging and qualifying for the World Beef Expo Judging Contest in September 2025. Our team was Lydia Fuchs, Mac Cacioppo, Ronnie Duvall, Brooke Watson, Emma Welch, Carson Johnson, Reece Bostic, and Ryland Wehr. At Ohio FFA Convention on Friday, May 2, 2025, Lydia Fuchs, Mac Cacioppo, Brooke Watson, Emma Welch, and Carson Johnson also received their State FFA Degrees. This is an accomplishment less than 3% of all FFA members earn”.

At the May 15 Barnesville School Board meeting there were four members of the Board at meeting. Member Tammy Wells was not present.   

During the meeting, District Treasurer Adam Quirk provided a five-year financial forecast for the district. Details of the report will be shared in our next post.

Also approved for the School Parent and Family Engagement Plan for the elementary school for the coming year.

Donations Accepted

Education donations accepted totaled $3,870 in three areas during the month of April:

  • Robotics Team – Casey Mayo
  • Football Program -Daniel Plumly, KCK Holdings for football equipment; Barnesville 200 Club for athletics patches
  • FFA Hoot and Holler – Barnesville Mothers Club, Mark and Mary Lou Barricklow, Village Hardware

A turf/lighting project for Barnesville Stadium received a donation from Kenneth and Barbara Triplett

Personnel

  • Approved a new contract with Hanna Travis, assistant treasurer, effective July 1 for a period of two years
  • An Executive Session of 42 minutes took place to discuss employment
  • Resignations of Joan Hamilton, aide, and Murray Stafford, science teacher, at the end of the school year were okayed
  • One-year limited contracts for the 2025-2026 school year were approved for Sarah Vincenzo, Brian Clark, Haley Leasure and Lauren Pyle
  • Three-year contacts were approved for Brady Treherne, Devin Blair and Brandi Antolak
  • Certified five-year contracts were okayed for Brady Baker, Julie Feldner, Megan Phalen, Jayson Stephen, Tawyna Yeager and Colleen Yesensczski
  • Summer Contracts at $25 an hour were approved on a 3-0 vote with Eberhart abstaining for the following:  
  • Elementary School: Amanda Householder, Daniel Yount, Anna Eberhart, Ashley Campbell, Rachel Leek, Tara Shriver  
  • Middle School: Matt Johnson, Jamie Carpenter
  • Elementary School Transition to Kindergarten: Anna Eberhart, Ashley Campbell, Rachel Leek, Tara Shriver, Becky Detling  
  • Elementary School Accelerated Reader: Amanda Householder, Anna Eberhart, Ashley Campbell, Rachel Leek, Tara Shriver
  • Extended School Year Special Education Services Instructor contracts for the summer were approved. The number of instructors needed will be contingent upon student enrollment. The initial contract for Alisa McCrate was approved
  • A temporary bus garage worker contract was approved for Mary Ellen Hannahs. The contract is limited to 30 days of employment
  • Volunteers approved for the coming school year include Emily Rockwell, cheerleading coach, and Hanna Travis, marching band
  • Supplemental contracts were accepted for Katey Rockwell, assistant cheer coach, Kinzie Kaplet, junior high volleyball coach, and Hunter Carpenter, assistant boys’ basketball coach
  • A certified limited one-year probationary contract was okayed for Cade Hannahs as integrated science instructor   
  • A retroactive substitute bus driver contract for John McCort was approved for the 2024-2025 school year. McCort’s name was invertedly left off the contract list earlier during the school year

Insurance

  • The Board approved the FY 2026 Jefferson Health Plan Renewal Rate with Jefferson Health Plan. Rates are increasing 9.6%  
  • The Board accepted changes to Blue Cross/Blue Shield for medical coverage and the Carelon for prescriptions effective July 1. Both medical and prescription insurance plans will remain with the Jefferson Health Plan consortium

Expenditures

  • A Purchase Order to purchase two new propane-fueled school buses in the amount of $278,052.00 for Cardinal Bus Sales was agreed to
  • The April 2025 invoice for food service with the Nutrition Group for $49,319.06 was approved  

Service Agreements/Contracts

  • The Ohio Hills Health Centers will conduct bus drivers’ medical examinations for the 2025-2026 school year
  • A contract for Speech and Language Services with Aaron Midei effective June 1 through the extended school year was approved
  • A contract between the District and Jessica M. Shipe, DBA Southeast Ohio Rehabilitations Service, LLC for two years, beginning on June 1st was accepted
  • A contract for Services between Southeast Healthcare Service and the District between August 2025 through May 2026 was approved   
  • A contract for Services between Valley Behavioral Health and the District was approved effective August 1, 2025, for one year
  • A Contract for services through the Community Wellness and Recovery Grant between the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties was inked  

Athletics

  • On a 3-1 vote with board member Eberhart opposed, athletic ticket prices for the 2025-2026 school year were approved. The only change Superintendent Micah Fuchs noted is raising general admission ticket price to $8 for varsity football games. Fuchs said the change aligns Barnesville with other area school districts

Upcoming Meetings

The next regular meeting will take place on Thursday, June 19 at the Middle School Cafetorium at 5:30 pm.

A Special End of Year Meeting will take place on Monday June 30 in the superintendent’s office at 7:00 am.
