Barnesville, Beallsville Students at Buckeye Boys and Buckeye Girls State



Four Barnesville and two Beallsville students who just completed their junior year of studies are at Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State this week.
Program attendees are sponsored by American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary posts throughout Ohio.
Girls attending Buckeye Girls State that runs from June 8-14 at Bowling Green State University. Local delegates are Hailey Bable and Joelle Haslam of Beallsville and Roselyne Anderson and Kenadie McGee of Barnesville.
Two Barnesville High boys attending Buckeye Boys State at Miami University in Oxford are Ben Eberhart and Jaxon Smith. Boys State runs from June 8-15.
Buckeye Boys and Girls State program is an annual summer program designed to educate Ohio’s young men and women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.
Participants learn about the process of government where they learn more about city, county and state government in one week than from an entire course of government or civics.
There are an estimated 1,200 delegates from 600 high schools at Buckeye Boys State this year. The program dates to 1936.
Buckeye Girls State dates to 1940. Annually approximately 1,000 delegates participate in the weeklong learning experience.
According to Ron Clark, principal at Barnesville, the BHS delegates were sponsored by the Beallsville American Legion #768. The Beallsville Auxiliary #768 sponsored the delegates at Girls State for both schools.
