Clayton Henry Coffey

Clayton Henry Coffey (77) of Salesville, Ohio transitioned to his next life May 23, 2025, at MD Anderson Houston, TX.
Clayton was born February 10, 1948. He grew up on a livestock and grain farm in Groveport, Ohio. He attended Groveport-Madison Schools and was very active in FFA being on the Ohio Milk Judging Team. He attended Ohio State University earning his BS in Agricultural Education in 1070, His Masters in 1979 and ABD.
Clayton married Joyce Anne Lares June 27, 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Elizabeth Coffey.
He farmed and taught Vocational Agriculture for 10 years. He served in ministry for 40 years; and was a member of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church, where he was ordained in 1997 and retired in 2013. He then served in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church with Koinonia Team Ministry (KTM) as directing pastor.
Clayton was active in the “Walk to Emmaus”. Having attended his walk in 1993 he remained active serving as Community Spiritual Director both on Walk to Emmaus and Youth Chrysalis as well as serving on many teams. Clayton also was passionate about Midwest Mission, a disaster relief center. He was a member of the board from 2014 to 2022 and being board chairman from 2018-2022. Meals for those in need came to life while he was serving on the board. This became known as the rice meal project.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Joyce and an Aunt Betty Coffey of Morristown, Tn., Cousin Norman Klamfoth of Groveport, Oh. Two nephews, David Lares of West Jefferson, Oh., David (Martha) Fowler Salesville, Oh, Five nieces; Debi (Tim) Montgomery of Columbus, Oh., Vicki Lares of Columbus, Oh, Stephanie (Scott) Kummel of Powell, Oh, Katie (Matt) Copeland of Belleville, Mi., Mary Jo Boyd of London, Oh. His great-nephews and nieces, Luke Montgomery, Seth (Jane) Montgomery, Joel (Abagail) Montgomery, Elyse (Samuel) Stover, Caleb Watson, Nicholas (Allison) Fowler, Ariel (Hunter) Donovan, Jacob (Halee) Fowler, Ephraim Fowler, Abby Kummel, Sarah Kummel, Heather (Rob) Reynolds, and Chris Boyd. Clayton had 11 great – great nephews and nieces as well as many special friends.
Calling hours will be held on July 13th from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. The Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 pm at Old Washington United Methodist Church in Old Washington, Oh. Rev. Laura White D.S. will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date at the Obetz Cemetery, Obetz, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be sent to KTM Rice Meals, PO Box 155, Old Washington, Oh 43768.
