Flushing Man Sentenced for Sex Crimes

COLUMBUS, OH — A Flushing man has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting minors and possessing child pornography.
Dennis Stopar, 65, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty in December 2024. According to federal prosecutors, Stopar sexually assaulted at least nine minor victims between 2022 and 2023, most of whom were in foster care with a relative of his. He created hundreds of images and videos documenting the abuse.
The investigation began in December 2023 after a CyberTip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children linked a Belmont County address to child pornography uploaded to Dropbox. Law enforcement found Stopar in possession of illegal material, and a federal search of his devices uncovered 160 images and 12 videos of the assaults.
Stopar is a previously convicted sex offender with a prior rape conviction involving long-term abuse of a child starting at age 6.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office. Acting U.S. Attorney Kelly A. Norris announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael H. Watson.
