Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash on SR 800

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Ohio State Highway Patrol, St. Clairsville Post, is currently investigating a single vehicle crash that took place on State Route 800 in Kirkwood Township, Belmont County at approximately 1:49 p.m. last Friday.
A 2024 Ford pick up truck was traveling southbound on SR 800 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment. This pick-up truck struck a fence, traveled through a field and struck a secondary fence before stopping.
Frank Persello, age 92 of Piedmont, was the driver of the pick-up truck. Persello was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. Persello was wearing his safety belt at the time of the incident.
Responding agencies assisting on scene were Barnesville EMS, The Belmont County Coroner’s Office and Jackson’s Towing.
Additional details of the crash remain under investigation.
