Robert King

Robert H. King age 101, of Canton, passed away on Fri., July 18, 2025.  He was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Barnesville, OH, a son to the late Henry and Florence (Byers) King. He was a 1941 graduate of Barnesville High School, and a 1951 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering.

Bob was employed by Republic Steel from 1941-1943 prior to serving in the Army from 1943-1946. At Republic he was a Metallurgical Engineer from 1952 until his retirement in 1983. In retirement Bob was very active in woodworking. He and his wife Maxine showed their crafts in various shows. He closely followed OSU Football & Basketball. Golf and bowling were an active part of his life.

Bob was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder, a trustee, and a deacon. He was a member of the local chapter of the American Society for Metals, of which he served as Chairman in 1969-1970 after many years of official responsibilities.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maxine King, his sister, Nina (King) Whitacre. He is survived by their sons, Kevin (Colleen) and Timothy; a grandson, Ryan, and a granddaughter, Lori (Jessie) Stocks, great grandsons, Nolen, and Kevin, and a great granddaughter, Cora. Also surviving are numerous nieces and a nephew.

Services will be held Sat. at 1:00pm in Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Amy Downard officiating. Friends may call Sat. one hour before the service, from 12-1pm, in the funeral home.  In honor of Bob, the family will be wearing Scarlet (Ohio State red) and we welcome those in attendance to do the same. Cremation will take place with inurnment in Crestview Cemetery in Barnesville at the family’s convenience.
