BHS Grad Awarded County Democratic Party Scholarship

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Belmont County Democratic Party recently awarded two scholarships to two 2025 high school grads to help with college finances in the coming school year.
Delana Jenkins, Barnesville High graduate, and Ava Davis, of Bridgeport, each received a check for $750 from the county party in an essay contest.
Jenkin’s writing focused on an earlier work she wrote as a 9-year-old when she heard the United States would build a border wall. Titled “The Walls We Build,” the essay centers on the need today for empathy and understanding as opposed to division.
Jenkins is the daughter of Summer and Bryan Jenkins. She will attend Rio Grande University where she will run cross country and track, joining her brother, Tyler, a 2022 BHS grad who is a standout cross country and track athlete for the Rio Grande Red Storms.
Davis focused on “Finding My Voice” as an essay theme. She is the daughter of Miranda Cordery and will attend Marshall University.
Again this year, the scholarships were funded by Michael Shaheen and Grace Hoffman who are Belmont County Democratic Party leaders and attorneys.
