Stephen Gerald Benson

Stephen “Steve” Benson, 70, of Beallsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the home that he loved, surrounded by his family.  He was born September 8, 1954, in Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio, a son of the late Ronald and Nellie Harper Benson. 

Steve retired from Ohio Valley Coal’s #6 Mine near Beallsville after 39 years.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and the United Mine Workers of America.  Steve enjoyed sitting outdoors in the sun, driving to look at nearby lakes, simply enjoying nature’s beauty.  His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ken Benson and Francis Benson; a sister, Esther Ried.  Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 49 years, Cindy Elerick Benson; five children, Amanda (Scott) Mignano, Christopher Benson, Daniel Benson, Alicia Benson, and Shawn (Jordan) Benson; a brother, Ed (Shauna) Benson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many family members and friends.

 Visitation will be held at the Harper Chapel, Beallsville, Monday, August 4, from 2pm to 4pm, and 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, at 11am with Minister Charles Pugh offering words of comfort.  Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery.
