Barnesville Expands Roadway Access to More Specialty Vehicles

The Barnesville Village Council recently passed a new ordinance allowing the operation of under-speed vehicles, low-speed vehicles, utility vehicles and mini-trucks, along with golf carts, on public roadways in the village.
The Barnesville Police Department noted this new ordinance comes with conditions.
Requirements for this new ordinance include:
All vehicles must be inspected by the Barnesville Police Department before they can be legally operated on village roadways.
Operators must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
Drivers and passengers must obey all applicable Ohio Traffic Laws and Village of Barnesville Codified Ordinances while operating these vehicles.
Rules for the ordinance include:
These vehicles may not be driven on any public roadway where the posted speed limit is greater than 35 mph. (Prior to the passage of the ordinance, golf carts were allowed on village streets up to 25 mph).
They are allowed to cross intersections where the speed limit exceeds 35 mph.
Inspection details include:
A fee of $50 is required for golf carts, under-speed vehicles, low-speed vehicles, utility vehicles and mini-trucks.
The police department states the purpose is to ensure compliance with state and local vehicle laws and allow titling and registration.
The PD also provides information on how to schedule an inspection by calling the department at 740-425-1976 or stopping at the agency to pick up an inspection packet and set an appointment.
