Progress Continues on Railroad Street Trail, Tunnel Project

Paving along the expanded Railroad Street with pedestrian path got underway this past week between SR 147 and the Bethesda Street/Bethesda Street Extension.

By Friday afternoon, paving moved on to the section of Railroad Street between the Bethesda Street intersection and Oak Street.

At times traffic will be limited and at other times, when the street is closed, detoured around active construction work.

The project will result in a 1.3-mile walking/running trail.

Meanwhile, work continues on bracing the c.1870 stone tunnel arches and end support walls.

The ODOT-grant funded railroad tunnel and the 1.3-mile walking trail project that got underway in February is expected to be completed late this fall.

General contractor, Cast & Baker Corporation of Canonsburg, PA, is using the Barnesville Depot for offices and the depot area as a lay down yard.
