Tackling Bond Avenue Water Issues

Workers of Ackerman Construction and Morris Excavating are busy this week tackling two persistent water issues on Bond Avenue and North Street in the village’s north end.
A wet weather spring midway upgrade from the intersection of the two streets played havoc earlier this year as several vehicles were damaged after dropping into the hole created by the escaping water.
Earlier, village administrator Roger Deal said efforts to plug the spring failed as the flow of water simply pushed out any fill materials placed in the void.

Finally, village employees placed a metal plate over the hole as water continued to freely flow long past the end of the spring months, due to above average rainfall this year.
Downgrade, water pooled on on the east side of the intersection every time it rained.
The project, that Deal estimates may cost up to $100,000, involves new catch basins at the intersection connected with 18-inch collection pipes.

A 15-inch pipe, being installed from the intersection to the mouth of the spring, will collect the water and allow it to flow to the catch basins below.
During the construction process, one lane traffic is being maintained with by mobile traffic light units.
