Couple Arrested on Drug Charges
Thursday, the Monroe County Criminal Interdiction Unit arrested Samuel Rios Maldonado and Esther Vargas, both of Mexico, following a traffic stop along State Route 800 near Malaga.
“During the course of the traffic stop K-9 Max alerted Deputies to the presence of narcotic odor emitting from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 6 grams of suspected cocaine and 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine,” the department reported on social Media.
Both subjects are currently housed at the Monroe County Jail on two counts of Possession of Drugs. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has placed an active arrest warrant on Maldonado at this time for immigration violations.
