Belmont County BOE Consolidates Five Locations into One

At Belmont County Board of Election’s most recent meeting, members voted to consolidate five polling locations, covering eight precincts, into a single site. The Flushing Village, Flushing Township, Belmont Village, Bethesda Village, Goshen Township, Kirkwood Township, Morristown Village and Union Township One will vote at Union Local High School.
This is the first election at Union Local High School for voters
Deputy Director Kamron Chervenak clarified that only Union Township One voters will move to Union Local. Union Township Two voters will continue to cast ballots at the Carnes Center at the Belmont County Fairgrounds. This does not affect Holloway voters who will continue to vote at their usual location.
Chervenak said many different factors go into a decision when establishing polling locations.
The board of elections is required by the Secretary of State’s Office for Americans with Disabilities Act to test any polling location, so members take that into consideration when selecting a site. Members also take into consideration travel time for voters and the convenience of security, such as setting up and scheduling, at the location.
Chervenak added the board of elections saved the county money by consolidating into one location because some precincts were the only precinct in a polling location, and the county had to pay for them.
More consolidations are not expected before the election in November, but locations are subject to change in the future.
