Richard “Dick” Reichley

Richard L. (Dick) Reichley, age 88, of St. Clairsville, passed peacefully on September 15, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. Richard was born February 11, 1937 in Zanesville, Ohio son of the late Harry Clyde Reichley and Margaret K. Reichley Sherlock.  A 1955 graduate of St. John’s High School in Bellaire, Ohio, he then went on to graduate from barber school at The Ohio State University in 1957.

Often referred to as “Dick the Barber”, he completed his apprenticeship and early barbering in Martins Ferry, Ohio.  He went on to own and operate Dick’s Barber Shop in Bethesda, Ohio for the next 44 years.  He knew the soul and kindness of Belmont County through his years traveling most county roads as needed to cut hair for sick calls, the former children’s home, and nursing homes. He always had a story to tell, and heard many tales from folks in his barber chair.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was an original charter member for life, of the Our Lady of Peace Council 4243, founded in 1956. He served on St. Clairsville City Council, was a member of March of Dimes, and member of National Pike Pen Knife Club. He also loved toy trains, and classic cars.   

He married his high school sweetheart, Regina (Pettit) Reichley, in 1958 and they celebrated their 67th anniversary this year.  He is survived by Regina and children Susan Poole of Ypsilanti, MI, Richard (Lilah) Reichley of West Chester, OH, and Robert Reichley of Columbus, OH. Sibling Patricia Pelton. Grandchildren Diane, Michael, Russell, and Libby.  

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 5-7pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be on Monday, September 22 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville, Ohio, with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant.  Burial will follow at St. Clairsville Union Cemetery.
