Charles F. “Fred” McGee
Charles Frederick “Fred” McGee, age 85, of Senecaville, died Friday, September 19, 2025, at Altercare Summit Acres in Caldwell. He was born December 21, 1939, in Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Isaac and Stella Carpenter McGee. He was a 1957 graduate of Batesville High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a radio operator. He carried lessons learned from military service throughout his life, having upright posture and meticulous dress. Fred was a devoted man of faith who touched innumerable lives and led many to Christ. He was a member of the Whigville Community Church and volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Noble Local Schools. Following his time in the Marines Fred worked road construction for a time. He retired from Centria, formerly E.G. Smith, in Cambridge after many years of service. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, gardener and bird watcher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth “Betty” Crum McGee, whom he married March 25, 1970, and who died April 18, 2009; one sister, Rita McKelvey; two brothers, Harry and Paul McGee.
Surviving is his daughter, Kathye K. Kohut Holstein of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Paula (Todd) Carpenter of Pleasant City, Trixy (Charles) Carpenter of Byesville and Phillip (Andrea) Holstein of Dublin; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Xyler and Chance Carpenter; one brother, Joe McGee of Canton; special friend and military buddy, Bud Brown; fishing companion, Frank Carpenter; several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Friends may call Monday, September 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street in Caldwell. The funeral will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Kennonsburg Cemetery. Noble County Veteran Service Organizations will present military honors. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Secrest Senior Center, 201 South High Street, Senecaville, Ohio 43780.
