Drought Conditions Affect Area

As the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival nears, for a second year drought conditions are affecting the area.
According to a post on the website drought.gov, drought conditions continue to expand and intensify in Ohio. The site notes that statewide, it was the driest August since 1895 during a month of approximately one inch precipitation, 2.5 inches below normal.
As of Thursday, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the entire State of Ohio is experiencing some level of drought condition. Currently just over three quarters of Ohio, 77.1%, is experiencing D-1 or Moderate Drought Conditions, 13.7% of Ohio is listed as D-2 or severe drought conditions, while 1.8% is seeing extreme, D-3 conditions. Much or all of Carroll, Columbiana and Jefferson Counties currently are in this D-3 category. The remainder of the state (light yellow) is experiencing abnormally dry, or D-0 conditions.
