Barnesville Hospital Campaign Honors Memory of Key Leaders

“There are two very special advocates of Barnesville Hospital that we would like to honor today during the fall season of giving.  Clara Groves and John Sawvel worked tirelessly and devoted many hours of their lives to not only their families but also to Barnesville Hospital. Many families and friends of these two dedicated stalwarts have asked how they can continue to honor their legacies,” hospital officials note.

WVU Medicine/Barnesville Hospital is honoring their contributions and with community donations to the Telemetry Project and will go directly to honor their legacy and directly impact the wing named after them.

Clara was a force of nature, and her dynamic leadership established 45 Auxiliary Twigs comprised of 1000 local women.  She had various roles in the hospital’s Auxiliary, Board of Trustees, the Belmont County Historical Society and more.  Clara raised John and his sister, Jane Sawvel Daley, after the death of their mother.  Clara’s influence and direction led John to dedicate nearly 55 years of his career to Barnesville Hospital.  He served most of those years as Chief Financial Officer and as a Controller.

“Of Clara Groves and her grandson John, it may be truly said that to live in the hearts of others is not to die,” a post notes. Contributions will directly impact their legacy and the patients that are served in their dedicated wing.
