Newcomers Claim All Four Barnesville Council Seats
Late Friday afternoon, the Belmont County Board of Elections (BOE) released the final unofficial vote tallies for contests that include write-in candidates. Barnesville Area News obtained a copy of the Barnesville election results that we now share.
In a rare move, both write-in candidates for Barnesville Council won seats. Originally, the BOE estimated there were 563 write-in votes in the village, but the final figure shows a total of 561 votes. Of these, a mere 15, or 2.67% were rejected or deemed invalid by canvassers.
Write-in contender Cole Carpenter received 275 votes while Lindsay Dowdle received 271 votes, 39 more than the highest tally for an incumbent seeking re-election.
Carpenter and Dowdle will join Brad English and Mark Lucas on the council in 2026. English received 452 votes, and Lucas received one less, 451.
All canvas votes are unofficial until the BOE meets next Wednesday, November 12, to certify the election.
We will share votes for the two write-in candidates for the Bethesda Village Council as soon as we receive them.
