South Central Power Donation Supports State Theater

The Barnesville State Theater Project is one of three historic preservation projects awarded a $10,000 donation from the South Central Power Company this fall. The donation was matched by Co-Bank, a South Central lender.

The projects were featured in the co-operative’s Ohio County Living magazine’s November issue.

“Communities across southern and eastern Ohio have a long and rich history, and South Central Power is helping preserve our past by supporting three historical preservation projects,” the magazine notes.

“Preserving historical sites serves as a link to the past, offering a unique sense of place and cultural continuity for communities”.

Of the theater that marks its 100th year in 2025, the magazine reports, “this project involves the meticulous restoration of a 1924 theater with rich historical significance. Nestled within a designated historic district acknowledged by the National Register of Historic Places, the revitalization aims to faithfully reinstate the Barnesville State Theater’s original charm”.

When completed, “the revitalized space will host a variety of performing arts, plays, concerts, and special events, and will be adaptable for movie screenings”.

South Central also supported work on the O.P. Chaney Grain Elevator in Canal Winchester and the Highland House in Hillsboro.
