St. Clairsville Chamber Honored by Ohio University Eastern

ST CLAIRSVILLE — The St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce was recognized as Ohio University Eastern’s 2025 Outstanding Community Partner Award recipient during the Engage OHIO 2025: Community and Place-Based Engagement Symposium, held Oct. 24 at the Ohio University Inn & Conference Center. Hosted by the Ohio University Center for Community Impact, Engage OHIO 2025 celebrated innovative teaching, collaborative scholarship, and the many ways university-community partnerships strengthen communities across Ohio and beyond. The Community Partner Awards honor organizations that exemplify excellence in engagement and demonstrate a lasting commitment to student success and regional development.

The partnership between OHIO Eastern and the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce has flourished through shared goals of fostering community connection, expanding professional networks, and creating experiential learning opportunities for students. Together, they have collaborated on campus-based networking events, community initiatives, and projects that connect higher education with local businesses.

Wendy Anderson, who served as the Chamber’s executive director until earlier this year, said the relationship grew from a mutual desire to align missions and make a tangible impact in the community.

“I recognized a clear opportunity to strengthen both the Chamber and Ohio University Eastern by aligning our shared goals,” Anderson said. “Through active listening, I understood the distinct needs of the college and local businesses, and it became evident that collaboration was not only logical but essential.”

Under Anderson’s leadership, the Chamber partnered with OHIO Eastern to co-host Coffee & Connections networking events on campus, helping to introduce community members to university programs and faculty. She also worked closely with university staff on the Shark Challenge business pitch competition and co-hosted a community podcast highlighting local businesses and student stories.

Lisa Kindler, who now leads the Chamber, said the award reflects the organization’s continued commitment to collaboration and community growth.

“This partnership represents a powerful investment in the future of the Ohio Valley’s business community by connecting businesses with the university’s educational resources and opportunities,” Kindler said. “Receiving this award is a tremendous honor for the Chamber and a reflection of our shared commitment to community and collaboration.”

Donielle Flynn, Manager of Campus Communications and External Relations at OHIO Eastern, who nominated the Chamber for the award, said the recognition reflects a partnership that has created lasting community connections.

“The Chamber’s partnership has strengthened OHIO Eastern’s connection with the local community in ways that truly matter,” Flynn said. “Together, we’ve created opportunities for students to engage with local leaders, gain professional experience, and see the value of staying connected to the region they call home.”

Dr. Richard W. Greenlee, Interim Dean of Campus and Community Relations at OHIO Eastern, praised the Chamber’s leadership for its vision and dedication.

“The St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce has been an outstanding partner in connecting our students with the professional world around them,” Greenlee said. “Their commitment to collaboration and innovation embodies the spirit of community engagement that we value at OHIO Eastern.”

The recognition of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce as OHIO Eastern’s 2025 Community Partner underscores the university’s commitment to collaboration that enhances education, business, and community engagement throughout the region. Looking ahead, OHIO Eastern is eager to continue participating in annual community events and exploring new opportunities to collaborate with the Chamber in support of students, local businesses, and the Ohio Valley region.
