In 1987, 38 years ago, BHS students Gwen Fisher and Brad Bunting were Barnesville Christmas Parade Snow Princess and Snow Prince.

My how times have changed. That year the small parade formed at the B & O Depot grounds and wound through the downtown Saturday afternoon consisting of the high school band, parade marshal, princess and prince and a few other entries. The whole thing was over almost before it started.

But that year, things were about to change. That was the first year for the downtown snowflake ornaments, wired by retired electrician Bill Ball, were hung from downtown street lamps.

Today, Christmas extends well beyond the downtown and the parade is now a lighted evening affair! This is also the third year for Christmas in the Park, another great holiday attraction.

There are many holiday events this week in Barnesville, Belmont, Flushing and beyond. Get out and enjoy the season.
