Giving Tuesday: Help Strengthen Local Journalism in Barnesville
This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking our neighbors near and far to help keep something important alive in Barnesville: local news.
In our first year as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Barnesville Area News set a goal of $25,000. Thanks to the generosity of this community, we reached it! Those funds allowed us to hire our first writer and secure insurance needed to operate responsibly and sustainably. Most importantly, it allowed us to do what we set out to do: bring local news coverage back to Barnesville and the surrounding area.
After the closure of the Barnesville Enterprise, we’ve been honored to once again cover the stories that matter most. The decisions that shape our town, the challenges facing our residents, and the everyday moments are what makes Barnesville special. We’ve worked to hold space for local voices, small businesses, community events, and important public issues that deserve attention.
But we’re just getting started.
For our second year, our goal is $45,000. This funding will allow us to continue current coverage and expand our reporting to include more stories about our neighbors in Bethesda, Belmont and Morristown to Fairview, Quaker City, Batesville and the northern Monroe County communities of Beallsville, Jerusalem, Malaga and Miltonsburg.
This will also allow us to provide dedicated sports coverage, something many of our readers, families, and student-athletes have told us truly matters. Barnesville sports are a heartbeat of our community, and we want to make sure those stories are not lost.
Local journalism doesn’t survive on clicks alone. It survives because current residents believe in it. It survives because former residents still care about their hometown. It survives because small business owners understand that strong local news strengthens the entire local economy.
On Giving Tuesday, you have the chance to help secure the future of Barnesville Area News.
Whether you give a one-time donation or setup recurring monthly or yearly contributions, every dollar helps ensure that Barnesville continues to have reliable, independent local journalism now and for generations to come. And because we are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, all donations are tax deductible.
