Union Local Will Seek Gap Loan
MORRISTOWN -In a Facebook social media post on the Union Local School District page last Friday, Superintendent Dr. Zac Shutler and District Treasurer Bernie Thompson posted a detailed statement regarding the moves the district will take to “ensure our school operations remain smooth and uninterrupted”.
Among other actions, the district is seeking a short-term Gap Loan of $2.5 Million to cover operations until Belmont County disburses tax collection in 2026.
This move was approved by the Board of Education at the final meeting of the year on Dec. 11.
The district has asked for voter approval of an operating levy several times in recent years, most recently in November. Each time, the voters have rejected the measure.
The last time additional millage was approved for school operations was in 1998.
The announcement also shared that another ask of school district voters will take place at the May 5 Primary Election.
The joint statement ends on a positive note. “We are committed to working together to ensure Union Local School District remains a strong option for students in our district for years to come”.
