Suspect Arrested for Quaker City Bank Robbery
CAMBRIDGE – Monday morning Guernsey County Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden announced that charges of aggravated robbery, a felony of the first degree, have been filed against Robert McFarland of Mount Pleasant, Ohio, for the bank robbery on July 25 at the Citizens National Bank branch in Quaker City.
At that time, an individual walked into the bank and brandished a firearm, demanding money from the bank tellers. Barnesville Area News reported the robbery that afternoon. Read that account here.
In a social media post Paden wrote “after a 5-month-long investigation, Guernsey County Sheriff’s detectives were able to secure enough evidence against McFarland that charges were filed on December 17th”.
McFarland was taken into custody at Bridgeport Friday by deputies and detectives from Guernsey County and Belmont County sheriff’s departments.

Sheriff Paden praised Det. Mark Fehr and Det. Dylan Webster, lead investigators of the robbery, who spent “hundreds of hours tracking down evidence, speaking with witnesses, and eventually arresting McFarland”.
The suspect is expected to have further charges presented to a grand jury. Paden also noted “detectives are also aware of an accomplice in this case and continue to work to gather further evidence against this individual so charges can be brought against them as well”.
McFarland will appear in the Cambridge Municipal Court later today at a bond hearing.
The Guernsey County Sheriff thanks all who assisted in the investigation, including the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations.
