Fairview Area Chimney Fire

FAIRVIEW – A call Monday evening just before 7:30 pm for a chimney fire in Oxford Township brought out several departments for mutual aid as Fairview Fire personnel determined the fire had spread to the basement.

In a social media post by Fairview VFD and EMS, they reported “the fire in the chimney was extremely stubborn and Fairview crews requested a ladder truck from Barnesville due to unsafe working conditions for ground ladders and crews working directly on the roof”.

The homeowners discovered the fire after smoke detectors went off.

In addition to Barnesville, mutual aid was provided by the Antrim, Senecaville, Old Washington and Quaker City departments with 35 firefighters on the scene.

The fire was brought under control in 18 minutes, the department reported.

Both Fairview and Barnesville then responded to multiple accidents resulting from the slick, snow covered roadway on I-70 between the Fairview and Barnesville exits.
