Barnesville Area News Company Adopts Column Policy

At its January 2026 meeting, the Barnesville Area News Company Board of Directors formally adopted a Column Policy to guide the submission and publication of community columns.

The policy reinforces Barnesville Area News’ commitment to providing a platform for thoughtful, constructive, and fact-based commentary that is clearly connected to Barnesville and surrounding communities. Columns must be original, limited to 900 words, and focused on issues or topics of local interest.

The policy also outlines standards intended to promote trust, civility, and transparency. Barnesville Area News does not publish columns containing misinformation, unverifiable claims, personal attacks, discriminatory or violent language, or advertorial content promoting for-profit products or services.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Barnesville Area News Company cannot publish columns that endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, and does not accept column submissions from political candidates during any current election cycle.

Community members, local leaders, and individuals with relevant expertise are encouraged to contribute columns that help readers better understand current events and their significance for the Barnesville area. Submissions must include a brief author bio (no more than two sentences), the author’s full name and signature, complete address, and telephone number. Address and phone information are used solely for verification purposes and are not shared.
