Betts Takes on Leadership Role at New Trinity Health System Hospital

Jamie Betts, a Barnesville native, began serving as director of operations at Trinity Health System’s St. Clairsville neighborhood hospital last summer.

Although the St. Clairsville location did not open until August 2025, Betts began working at the facility in June to assist with preparation and construction oversight before assuming daily operational responsibilities once the hospital opened. While leadership is shared with Trinity Health’s Steubenville campus, Betts is the only administrator based on-site each day.

“I create a bridge between executive leadership and the clinical teams,” Betts said.

He said operations at the St. Clairsville hospital have gone well since opening, and the hospital’s patient volume has increased.

“This was a much needed service,” he said. “There was definitely a gap in access to health care in the area.”

Trinity Health System’s mission is to serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within its communities.

Betts graduated from Barnesville High School in 2011 after completing post-secondary coursework that allowed him to work as an emergency medical technician while still in high school.

After graduating, he earned an associate degree in paramedicine in 2013 while working as an EMT with Barnesville EMS. Afterward, Betts worked as a paramedic and firefighter with several local fire departments, including the Cumberland Trail Fire District, where he served as a full-time staff member.

In 2018, Betts began working as a flight paramedic with STAT Medevac, a helicopter emergency medical service owned by Pittsburgh-based UPMC. He later earned a master’s degree in health administration in 2021 and returned to school for nursing education. He is currently completing nurse practitioner coursework.

Betts also helped launch the Belmont County Cares program, serving as its inaugural director before becoming nurse manager of the emergency department at Barnesville Hospital.

Betts said he has always had an interest in leadership roles and caring for others.

According to Betts, one way to really improve health care is to help the people who are helping people. He further states that being a guide or a resource to nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals is his mission.

Betts said he plans to remain in Barnesville, where he is raising his two daughters, and is committed to serving the Ohio Valley.

“Having clinically informed operational leadership is very important …,” he said, “and having access to health care here creates opportunity.”
