Charles “Chuck” Wagner Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Wagner, 92, of Wheeling, WV passed away February 5, 2026 at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by his loving family and praying the Rosary.

Chuck was born July 20, 1933 to the late Herman and Mary Angela (Weiss) Wagner in their family home located in Triadelphia, WV.

In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by an infant son, Billy; 13 siblings: Herman “Bob” Wagner, Sr. Jeanne Marie Wagner, Sr. Anna Wagner, Sr. Gabriella Wagner, Rita Wright, Marie Kennedy, Jerry Wagner, Martha Ross, Dorothy Fitzsimmons, John Wagner, George Wagner, Joe Wagner and Paul Wagner; Son-in-law, Mike Dent; brother-in-law, Don Madl and sister-in-law, Beverly Madl.

Chuck was a devout Catholic, graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School and an active member of St. Michael Parish of Wheeling, WV where he served as a former usher and a volunteer at St. Michael Community Festival. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he honorably held several officer positions and was proud to be a 4th Degree Knight. He honorably served as a Past President of Holy Name Society and continued serving his faith community in the Serra Club and the St. Vincent de Paul Society and actively volunteered with Catholic Charities and Mount St. Joseph. Chuck was devoted to the Rosary, continually seeking a closer relation with Jesus through the Holy Mother. In addition to the church, Chuck volunteered his time to the community as a Little League Coach and Odyssey of the Mind at Wheeling Central, proudly taking them to the World Finals 3 years. The outdoors brought him joy and peace, he enjoyed hunting and was an avid golfer. Chuck was also a fan of the Miracle League, watching Nathan play was a source of pride. More than anything, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his large family.

In addition to serving his church, community and family, Charles honorably served his country in the US Army. Professionally, he worked as a Yardmaster with the B&O and CSX Railroad for 42 years before his retirement.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 72 years, Pat (Madl) Wagner; children: Charlene (Dennis) Kirkpatrick of Belmont, OH, Cindy Dent of Uniontown, OH, Jeanne Wagner, Chuck Wagner and Joyce Cook, all of Wheeling, WV; grandchildren raised by him and Pat: Rhonda (Chad) Betoney, and Dan (Pam) Boggs; grandchildren: Melissa (Joel) Rickey, Rob (Jessica) Dent, Chris Kirkpatrick, Ryan Dent, Jake (Amanda) Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Dent, Raymond Betchley, Albert Betchley, David Betchley, Eric (Kaitlyn) Auber, Nathan Auber, and Bethany Kuebler; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jim (Dottie) Madl and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until time of Knights of Columbus Rosary and Vigil at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 12:00 at St. Michael Catholic Church with The Very Reverend Carlos Melocoton as Celebrant. Entombment will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Chapel Mausoleum with full Military Honors.
