BECI Group Donates to the American Heart Association
The Belmont County Correctional Institution’s Women in Corrections present a check to the American Heart Association, in the wake of Warden Shelbie Smith’s Woman of Impact nomination.
This is the second year the BECI presented a check to the American Heart Association. Case manager Vila Jenkins said the BECI enjoys giving back to the community and would have donated money to the organization regardless of Smith’s nomination. However, this check is on behalf of the warden’s accomplishment.
Jenkins added that BECI wanted to help Smith raise funds for the American Heart Association.
The funds raised for the donation to the American Heart Association were done through a soup sale in January.
This donation advances the mission to take women’s health seriously, American Heart Association Development Director Lauren Thomas said.
“This is my job,” Thomas said, “but when I get to work with wonderful people on projects like this it means the world.”
