Barnesville Claims Div. III District Crown  

Seven Move on to State

COSHOCTON – The Shamrocks continued their winning ways in Division III wrestling Friday and Saturday taking top honors in the District with 188.5 points. 

Barnesville entered day two of the competition in first place with 97 points, while Garaway was second at 80.5 points and Union Local in third place at 63. Eight Shamrock wrestlers advanced to the semi-finals Saturday morning.

At the completion of the tournament, ranking of the top three teams remained unchanged.

1. Barnesville 188.5

2. Garaway 176.0

3. Union Local 135.5

4. Bid. River Valley 107.5

5. Martins Ferry 101.5

6. Nelsonville-York 96.5

7. Huntington 78.5

8. Mechanicsburg 77.0

9. Elgin 70.0

10. Adena 62.5

The top four wrestlers in each weight class move on to Columbus. The seven Barnesville wrestlers advancing to State are:

105: Easton Stephen – 2nd

113: Hoyt Hartshorn – 4th

120:  Jaxon Aberegg – 1st

126: Bentley Stephen – 4th

138: Ryder King – 2nd

144: Colt Carpenter – 1st

175: Hines Ford – 1st   

Christien Hannahs, who came in 5th place in the 215-weight class, is an “Alternate”.

Neighboring Union Local came in third at Coshocton with 136.5 points. The Jets are sending four to Columbus.

190: Brody Perzanowski – 3rd

The top four finishers in each weight class move on to the state tournament next weekend at the Value City Arena in The Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center. The three-day contest gets underway Friday and runs through Sunday night’s championship finals.
