Impact of Last Friday’s Winds

The high winds that buffeted eastern Ohio last Friday caused power outages for many, some lasting almost a day, as trees came down across power lines or blocking roadways.

Barnesville Police received almost two dozen calls that included wandering dumpsters, street trash cans overturned and blowing debris.

A large window on the second story of The Haven Youth Center, 163 East Main Street, literally blew out and shattered on the street below , broken glass strewn eastward to the Arch Street intersection. Luckily no one was injured in the mishap that was reported at 8 p.m.

Older residents will remember this building as the location of the Green Cottage Restaurant, and before that, the Green Castle. Up until Chestnut Lanes opened in the early 1960s, the second story was home to a bowling alley!
